Geneva Mayor To Appoint City Treasurer After No Candidates File In April Election

The city is accepting applications to fill the vacant seat after no candidates filed to run in the April 1 consolidated election.

GENEVA, IL — The City of Geneva has opened applications for the city treasurer seat, which has remained vacant after no candidates filed to run in the April 1 Consolidated Election.

The treasurer's primary responsibility is to serve on the police and fire pension boards, which meet quarterly, officials said.

Whereas the city's finance director manages the day-to-day operations of the department, the treasurer also serves as a signatory on checks, reviews treasurer's reports submitted to the City Council, certifies and signs off on required state financial filings, executes the necessary signatures on debt issuance documents as required following City Council authorization, and assists the finance director as requested.

Geneva residents interested in the position should submit an online application as well as a letter of interest by Aug. 7. Once appointed, the new treasurer will be required by the Government Ethics Act to file a statement of economic interest with the Kane County Clerk's Office.
