GENEVA, IL — The Kautz Road reconstruction and widening project is set to start after operations were delayed due to utility conflicts, Geneva city officials said Thursday.

The project is a collaboration between the cities of Geneva and St. Charles. Work will take place between Swenson Avenue in St. Charles to just north of State Street in Geneva.

Construction was originally scheduled to begin in early June but got postponed while contractors "spent the past several weeks resolving the utility conflicts and relocations."

Initial work will include removing the roadway surface pavement, concrete curb and walking trail. Underground utility work is expected to begin the week of June 24.

Upgrades include replacing failing pavement, enhancing freight mobility, mitigating drainage issues, completing trail connectivity, improving safety measures and supporting economic development in the area, officials said.

Kautz Road will remain primarily open to traffic, but portions of the construction will require detours. Officials urged residents to drive with caution through the work zone.

The bulk of construction should be completed by the end of the year, Geneva officials said. Landscape restoration and other punch list items will be finished in spring 2025.
