Mark Einwich, Former Geneva Deputy Fire Chief, Dies At 55

The flag at Geneva City Hall will be lowered for five days to honor the former deputy chief, who retired in November 2022.

GENEVA, IL — A former deputy fire chief at the Geneva Fire Department, Mark Einwich died March 7. He was 55.

Before he retired in November 2022, Einwich worked for the Geneva Fire Department for 30 years, becoming deputy chief in 2012. After retiring, he volunteered and served as deputy chief of the Burlington Fire Department.

During his career, he worked as a police officer in Elburn and in telecommunication at the Kane County Sheriff's Office. Einwich previously volunteered at the Pingree Grove and Countryside Fire Protection District.

"Mark loved the fire service and public safety service in general," Geneva Fire Chief Mike Antenore said in a statement. "Mark was a paramedic for over 30 years and took great pride in his skills and how he delivered patient care. He was very personable, always willing to step in to help his fellow firefighters."

Geneva City Council honored Einwich with a moment of silence during its meeting Monday. The Geneva flag at City Hall will be lowered March 23-27 in the deputy chief's memory.

"Mark was always known to share his wisdom, especially, 'Work smarter not harder,'" his obituary reads.

Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. March 24 at Burlington Central High School, 44W625 Plato Road. A funeral service is planned for 11 a.m. March 25 at the school's gym.
