The United States celebrated the first National Ice Cream Day in 1984. We celebrate the sweet treat thanks to former President Ronald Reagan, who wanted to commemorate the treat enjoyed by most Americans.

The top flavor in Illinois: Rocky road.

Coming in second place was coconut, followed by cookie dough and chocolate. Cookies and cream rounded out the top five.
