New 5th Ward Alderperson Appointed Through 2025 Consolidated Election
Mayor Kevin Burns appointed William Malecki to fill the vacant 5th Ward alderperson seat.
GENEVA, IL — A Strategic Plan Advisory Committee member was appointed Monday night to fill the vacant 5th Ward alderperson seat.
Geneva City Council voted to approve Mayor Kevin Burns's appointment of William Malecki, one of five residents who applied for the vacancy left by former Alderperson Craig Maladra, who resigned Sept. 16 after serving on City Council for 21 years.
Malecki has served on the city's committee tasked with prioritizing community goals outlined in the city's strategic plan since 2018. He and his family moved to Geneva in 2003, and he has been an employee and now vice president of a local construction company for two decades.

"I have closely followed how our City functions and am humbled that I now have the opportunity to not only be part of the decision-making process but, most importantly, to be a representative of the residents and stakeholders in the ward," Malecki said in a statement. "I plan on being a voice on the City Council for my neighbors, who I continue to meet with on a regular basis."
Malecki's appointment will last until May 5, 2025, and the seat will be open in the 2025 consolidated election.
