Nicor Gas Main Replacement Project To Start Soon In Geneva

Some residences and businesses will be impacted by the project, city officials said.

GENEVA, IL — A Nicor gas main replacement project starting soon in Geneva is expected to impact some residences and businesses, city officials said.

Nicor will be replacing natural gas mains on both sides of the Fox River, starting with equipment set-up in late April. Work is expected to be completed in the next four to five months.

A project page on the City of Geneva's website details the project areas. The following areas will be affected:

East of the Fox River

  • Various sections of Route 25 (Bennett Street) generally north of Dodson Street;
  • Division Street near Route 25
  • Woodward Avenue
  • Euclid Avenue
  • School Street from Oakwood Drive to Woodward Avenue

West of the Fox River

  • Route 31 (First Street) and River Lane north of Stevens Street
  • North Street
  • Stevens Street from Second Street to River Lane
  • Second Street from Stevens to Fulton streets
  • Cross streets near Second Street including Peyton, Hamilton, James, Campbell and Fulton streets.

Construction and installation will be primarily done through underground boring but will also involve some pavement cutting and road closures, according to city officials.

Nicor is planning to reach out to those impacted since the project will require reconnecting properties with the new infrastructure.

City officials said that although they are providing information, they have no authority or control as the project is Nicor's.

"The details shared by the City are only as good as the information provided to us by Nicor," officials said.
