GENEVA, IL — Penrose Brewing customers hungry for a bite to eat no longer have to worry if they didn't bring their own food. Now, patrons can pair their beer with handmade pizza.

Penrose, at 509 Stevens St., partnered with Franklin Park-based Massa Pizza Company to offer all five of its pizzas: four cheese, Italian sausage, spicy soppressata, margherita, and roasted veggie. The pies are a cross between Detroit-style pizza and pizza bread, according to the brewery.

Jan. 24, the day the pizzas were made available to customers, became the first time since the Geneva brewery's inception in 2014 that in-house food is available for purchase at the taproom.

"We have received very positive feedback thus far," Anthony Sperando, a sales representative at the brewery, told Patch.

Massa Pizza Company started out in 1968 when the Lollino family began serving Italian foods, coffee and specialty frozen desserts in the Chicagoland area. Husband-and-wife duo Angelo and Giovanna Lollino expanded the business in the '90s, opening a flagship cafe in Elmwood Park — an eatery still open today, although it's currently undergoing a remodel.

"We are excited to add pizza to our offerings at our taproom, alongside our award-winning beers," Tom Korder, Penrose Brewing's cofounder and head brewer, said in a statement. "In years past, our customers have been asking for a food option if they’re looking to have another beer or two. It’s the best of both worlds to be able to work with another locally-owned Chicagoland company."

Pizza will be available to order during all taproom hours. Penrose is open from 1-9 p.m. Tuesday to Thursday, noon to 11 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.
