GENEVA, IL — A "well-loved concept" from Galena will make a new home in the space formerly occupied by Graham's 318 Coffee House as part of a transformation of the prime downtown Geneva property.

The beloved coffee shop closed in April 2024, and instead of continuing to wait to find "the right fit to carry on its spirit," owners decided to sell the commercial building to "[welcome] a new beginning altogether," according to a June 30 letter published by Graham's Chocolates on Facebook.

The circa-1918 property on a 7,800-square-foot lot sold on July 1 for $2.1 million, according to McColly Real Estate.

"While it's always bittersweet to say goodbye, our hearts are full knowing that 318 will once again be a place where people gather, laugh, and make memories," the letter reads. "We are grateful to see the lights come on again, and for a new team to carry forward the magic of this space in their own unique way."

The new owners "have a beautiful vision" for the space, now going by The Kate at 318. Part of the transformation includes the Bread & Vine opening in the former coffee shop space, bringing "a little taste of Europe" to downtown Geneva. In Galena, the bistro offers French-style cuisine, pastries and cocktails.

Bread & Vine Geneva franchise owners Scott and Candace Campbell expect the new location to open in late fall.

"We won't be exactly like Graham's 318," Bread & Vine wrote in a post on Facebook. "But we'll strive to be the same welcoming and casual atmosphere for residents and visitors to Geneva that Graham's 318 came to represent."

Owners of The Kate at 318 will also set up offices on the building's second floor, "planting deep roots in the Geneva community," according to the letter.
