GENEVA, IL — Playhouse 38 is gearing up to stage a "story of mishaps and moxie ... and ultimately a Hollywood-caliber romance."
Set in the 1920s in the West, the Geneva Park District community theater will perform "Laugh" three times between April 17 and April 20.
The synopsis: "A dynamite accident at a gold mine has left her wealthy but orphaned; she's shipped off to a calculating aunt, whose nephew is charged with seducing her to control Mabel's fortune. This hapless courtship reveals a shared love of silent movies and a plan for greater things."

As the title suggests, the showrunners hope the audience will have a fun time at the production.
"Maybe it's because I grew up in the ‘Internet age’ where the most frequent place to interact with strangers is online, and so the rarity of finding common ground with strangers in public is that much more profound in my eyes," Director Carolyn Goldsmith said in a statement. "But I find that brief, gleeful moment to be the reason why we go to the theatre: to find a collective joy between us and the people around us."

The play will take place at 7 p.m. April 17 and April 18 and 3 p.m. April 20. Tickets to the production are for sale on the park district's website and in person at the Sunset Community Center or Stephen Persinger Recreation Center.
Admission is $15 in advance or $20 at the door. Concessions, including popcorn, candy, and alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages will be available for purchase.
