Rally To Protest 'Fascist Takeover' Planned On Geneva Bridge

GENEVA, IL — Locals are taking to a Geneva bridge on Saturday to "fight back against the fascist takeover," referring to the moves President Donald Trump has made since taking office.

The Women's March, We Can Lead Change Fox Valley and Fox Valley activists are partnering to host the "Unite & Resist" rally to mark International Women's Day, which falls on Saturday, March 8. The event is taking place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Route 38 bridge.

Women's March, a women-led organization that holds demonstrations, is hosting rallies across the United States and in Paris for International Women's Day. The idea for Women's March came about in 2016 after Trump defeated his Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton.

"Join us to defend our rights, our bodies, and our future," reads the event's description on the Women's March website. "No permission needed—just show up and bring others. Bring signs as we will be standing on the side of a bridge with plenty of vehicle and pedestrian traffic!"

As of Thursday, 143 people have signed up to attend the protest.

"Women feel that the Trump Administration is putting women back over 50 years — just because of reproductive rights," Susan Sanders, the co-chair of We Can Lead Change Fox Valley, told Shaw Local. “We just have to keep making women feel that they are equal to men and they have equal rights."
