'Safety Blitz' Planned At Geneva Train Depot

The event is designed to raise awareness about rail safety and educate passengers on making smart decisions in busy areas, officials said.

GENEVA, IL — The Geneva Police Department is participating in a "passenger safety blitz" July 9 at the Geneva Train Depot.

Police are partnering with Metra and Operation Lifesaver for the community outreach event designed to "raise awareness about rail safety and educate passengers on making smart decisions around the railroad tracks, especially in busy commuter environments with increased rail traffic," according to a news release.

From 3-7 p.m., representatives from the three partners will be at 328 Crescent Place distributing educational materials, answering questions and enforcing pedestrian laws near the Third Street railroad crossing.

"We want every passenger to be safe and informed," Geneva Deputy Police Chief Brian Maduzia said in a statement. "The Passenger Safety Blitz is about creating awareness and responsibility when it comes to rail safety."
