Several Geneva D-304 Support Staff Members Dismissed

A full time fifth-grade math teacher at Heartland Elementary School and 11 classroom assistants across the district won't return next year.

GENEVA, IL — Several Geneva District 304 support staff and one teacher will have their last day June 7, as the district's school board approved their dismissal at its April 8 meeting, according to the Kane County Chronicle. The full time fifth-grade math teacher at Heartland Elementary School and the 11 classroom assistants at Western Avenue, Heartland, Harrison, Mill Creek and Fabyan elementary schools are not being re-employed for the 2019-2020 school year, officials said, according to the news report.

Among the reasons given for the full time math teacher's dismissal was so administrators would have more flexibility to responded to enrollment changes, according to the Kane County Chronicle. However, officials cited the reason for the classroom assistants' dismissal as the district not being sure whether there would be enough students for their services.

Support staff are part-time employees, working 15 hours to 28.45 hours per week, documents show, the Kane County Chronicle said.
