Share A Haircut In Chicago Area To Help End Domestic Violence
When Hair Cuttery is partnering with the National Network to End Domestic Violence for the 20th year of the Share a Haircut program.
Hair Cuttery and the National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV) are teaming up Monday and Tuesday, May 20 and 21, to raise awareness for domestic violence through Hair Cuttery’s Share-A-Haircut program. For every haircut purchased at one of the Hair Cuttery’s over 800 salons during these two days, one free haircut certificate will be donated to a survivor of domestic violence through a network of state coalitions and local programs nationwide, according to a release. Through the partnership, Hair Cuttery and NNEDV will work closely to distribute thousands of free haircut certificates to individuals affected by domestic violence, including women, children, and men, according to a release.
NNEDV has over 2,000 local programs, and has been advancing the movement against domestic violence for over 25 years. The nonprofit has led efforts among domestic violence advocates and survivors in urging Congress to pass the landmark Violence Against Women Act of 1994.
“The vast majority of those impacted by domestic violence experience some level of financial abuse," Kim Gandy, NNEDV President and CEO, said in a release sent to Patch. "The gift of a free, fresh haircut can make the world of difference. A haircut is a gift that supports economic empowerment and gives survivors a moment to practice self-care. Hair Cuttery’s continued commitment to championing domestic violence is the kind of commitment that creates change.”
