Tornado Warnings Issued In Chicago Area

Storms capable of producing tornadoes spotted near Lisle, Wheaton.

ILLINOIS — Hours after the National Weather Service said Wednesday's rain and potential storms could bring "brief tornadoes," it issued tornado warnings for northeastern Kane and DuPage counties, as well as parts of Cook County. Residents were urged to take cover immediately.

Warnings in effect for Kane and DuPage counties were allowed to expire around 4 p.m., with the warning in DuPage ending around 15 minutes early as storms had moved out of the area.

Another tornado warning was in effect until 4:30 p.m. for parts of Cook County, including Arlington Heights, Des Plaines and Mount Prospect. That warning was also allowed to expire.

'Brief Tornadoes' Possible, Rain And Storms Likely: Illinois Weather

The National Weather Service said "a few tornadoes" are possible Wednesday, with the main threat over the Wednesday afternoon between I-39 and I-55, south of I-88. Additional areas could be affected east of I-55 as unstable air flows into northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana, according to NWS.
