Untreated Geneva Sidewalks, Stairs 'Extremely' Icy, Public Works Warns

Icy conditions will linger until about 10 a.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

GENEVA, IL — While Geneva Public Works crews worked to salt all roadways overnight, untreated surfaces, including sidewalks and stairs, are still "extremely icy," officials said.

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory from 6 p.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Thursday in Kane County, with the forecast calling for rain and freezing drizzle with possible ice accumulation up to one-tenth of an inch in some areas.

Travel conditions on Geneva's residential streets and state highways are generally in "decent shape given the icy conditions," as of 7:50 a.m. Thursday. But locals should still be careful on sidewalks, driveways, stairs and other untreated surfaces, officials said.

Icy conditions will linger until about 10 a.m., according to the weather service. The ice should melt as temperatures begin to warm up throughout the morning. Thursday's forecast calls for a high of 40.
