Water, Sewer Rates To Increase Again In Geneva

It's the second increase part of the Geneva City Council-approved plan that will see rates go up incrementally over the next five years.

GENEVA, IL — The next scheduled water rate increase will go into effect May 15 for most Geneva residents.

Geneva's water and sewer customers will see a 7.5 percent increase in their bills. A residential water user who consumes about 700 cubic feet per month should expect to pay an extra $5 a month. A household with a larger family who uses about 2,000 cubic feet per month will pay about $14 more per month, officials noted in a Monday news release.

In April 2023, Geneva City Council approved a 5-year plan that will see rates go up incrementally over the next five years, starting with 7.5 percent in the first two years followed by 5 percent in each of the remaining three years, Patch reported.

The average household that paid $183.99 per month for 2,000 cubic feet between 2019 to 2023 will be paying $246.37 per month by 2027-28, documents show.

The extra funds raised will help pay for upcoming water main and lead service line replacements, a sanitary line crossing the Fox River, Wastewater Treatment Plant upgrades and other water-related capital projects, officials said.
