GENEVA, IL — The reopening date for the Western Avenue crossing has been pushed back by a week, according to an update.

The crossing, which shut down Oct. 7, was originally scheduled to be finished by Nov. 8, but crews still need to pour concrete and finish asphalt resurfacing in the coming days, officials said Thursday.

The Fox River Trail just south of Island Park will also continue to be closed to northbound, southbound and feeder trail traffic through Nov. 15 to accommodate construction. The section of the trail along the east bank of the Fox River closed Nov. 4.

Officials said the Route 31 overflow parking lot south of the Western Avenue underpass could possibly reopen by Thanksgiving, whereas the Third Street commuter parking lot on the southwest side of the tracks is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

In the update, officials again noted the schedule could change again due to weather or construction delays.
