14-Year-Old Accused Of Bringing Loaded Gun To Lombard High School

LOMBARD, IL — A 14-year-old Glendale Heights boy faces felony charges after police say he brought a loaded gun to Lombard High School Tuesday.

The boy was charged with unlawful use 0f a weapon in a school and possession of a firearm by a minor in connection with the incident.

Police say school security was notified around 2:15 p.m. that a loaded 9mm handgun had been found in the boys' bathroom. Lombard police used the gun's serial number to trace it to an address in Glendale Heights where the 14-year-old lives.

Officers took the teen into0 custody shortly after interviewing him, a news release said.

“I would like to commend the student who did the right thing and brought this matter to the attention of authorities,” DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a news release.

Berlin added, “With the school year just beginning, I want to make one thing perfectly clear, DuPage County law enforcement, school personnel and our residents have zero tolerance for the type of behavior alleged in this case. Furthermore, any threats of violence, or perceived threat of violence, will be taken extremely seriously, fully investigated and, if charges are warranted, prosecuted."

The teen is set to appear in court Sept. 16.
