$900K Fraud Scheme Involved Aliases, Multiple Addresses, Fake SKUs: Prosecutors

GLEN ELLYN, IL — A Glen Ellyn woman faces federal charges after prosecutors say she defrauded a retail business of more than $900,000 via online return schemes in which she used aliases, fake SKUs and returned the same items multiple times.

Iryna Boguslavska, of the was charged with wire fraud in connection with events that took place between October 2023 and October 2024.

Boguslavska is accused of buying items online through a company that used wire transfer to sell items. According to prosecutors, Boguslavska bought items from one company, and then returned them, occasionally attempting the return multiple times and using SKUs for more expensive products. She is also accused of telling the company her items had been lost in the mail to get refunds.

Boguslavska is further accused of returning items for a gift card, using the gift card to buy the same item and returning the new item with the original receipt to get the purchase refunded to a credit or debit card.

Per the criminal complaint, Boguslavska defrauded the company of more than $900,000. Prosecutors say she wore face coverings, used aliases, multiple credit cards and different addresses during these incidents.

During a search warrant of Boguslavska's residence, investigators reported that they found:

  • Around $201,276 of merchandise from the company
  • Around $109,776 of fraudulent merchandise from the company
  • Around $3,870 of non-tagged merchandise
  • Checks valued at $53,907.38
  • A total of $6,001.37 in cash
  • 164 gift cards from the company, totaling $10,685.50
  • 519 Amwerican Express gift cards totaling $1,848.65
  • Four cellphones

Per the complaint, Bogulslavska's bank and credit card information also appeared to reflect the aforementioned accusations.
