Decorated Cicada Sculptures To Take Over Downtown Glen Ellyn

"Cicadas on Parade" will bring more than two dozen colorful cicada sculptures to downtown Glen Ellyn this year.

GLEN ELLYN, IL — Cicadas are set to invade downtown Glen Ellyn...cicada sculptures, that is! Cicadas on Parade, part of Chicago's Insect Asylum's Cicada Parade-a, will bring more than two dozen colorfully decorated cicada sculptures to the downtown area.

The 18-inch sculptures will be painted by Glen Ellyn business owners and local artists. Visitors can stroll downtown to spot the cicada sculptures, some of which may be hidden in store windows, on trees or in planters.

This year, billions of cicadas are set to emerge in Illinois as part of a surfacing that takes place every 13 to 17 years. As of late April, cicadas have already been spotted in and around Chicago.
