Five Things to Know in Glen Ellyn This Week

1. The Xtension Chords, a 12-member, all male a cappella singing group from the University of Illinois, will visit the Glenbard East music department after school on Tuesday, Nov. 26. For the past 20 years, this group has provided audiences with tight harmonies and smooth choreography. Come get a glimpse into the hearts and minds of men singing on stage. Included in the ensemble is former East music student Antonio Camacho. Join us in the Choir Room at 2:45 p.m. Nov. 26.

2. Additional customer and commuter parking spaces have been added to the central business district, bringing the downtown parking space total to about 1,600 spots. With a federal grant, the village has been working to complete a 47-space commuter parking lot near Duane Street and Glenwood Avenue. The opening of the lot, with an official ribbon cutting ceremony, is planned for early this December. The village also modified village-owned parking lots to provide additional spaces for downtown customers.

3. The Glen Ellyn District 41 Board of Education meets at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 25 at the Central Services Office, 793 N. Main St., Glen Ellyn. Meeting agendas and packets are posted here. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.

5. On Friday, Nov. 29, the Glen Ellyn Public Library will host its annual “Holiday Walk” from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. The walk features three floors of live entertainment, arts and crafts, book sales and refreshments leading up to the Glen Ellyn Chamber of Commerce’s Tree Lighting Ceremony. The Holiday Walk will feature interactive arts and crafts stations, a variety show for kids featuring magic, juggling and a unicycle, plus live musical performances by Vivaldi Strings, Anima Singers, One Voice Choir and The Glenbard South Madrigal Singers.
