Glen Ellyn To Welcome New Director Of Community Development

GLEN ELLYN, IL — Glen Ellyn will get an experienced community leader who specializes in economic development after an extensive search for a new community development director landed the village with a long-time specialist.

Marty Scott, who currently serves as the Director of Community Development in Western Springs, has been appointed to the position in Glen Ellyn, village officials announced on Wednesday. Scott brings more than 30 years of experience to the job and has focused on economic development, zoning, planning, and administration during his career.

Scott will be sworn into the new position on Aug. 22.

Scott will oversee all aspects of the village’s Community Development Department, which provides support to the Plan Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals, Historic Preservation Commission, Architectural Appearance Commission, and Building Board of Appeals, officials said in a news release.

Community Development is responsible for coordinating the review and analysis of all development projects, issuing building permits, performing building and fire safety inspections, and assisting in the preparation of long-term visioning and planning policies, among other responsibilities, the release said.

“Marty’s problem-solving abilities, leadership, and passion for public service make him an ideal fit for this role,” Glen Ellyn Village Manager Mark Franz said in a statement released by the village. “His experience and expertise will help us shape the future of Glen Ellyn.”

Scott received his bachelor’s degree in Community and Regional Planning from Iowa State University and holds a certification from the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP). He also participated in the LEAD Program (Leading, Educating, and Developing) for further training through the Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service at the University of Virginia.

Scott has also worked with several professional organizations to train others in the areas of planning and development and presented at national industry conferences on the topics of planning, customer service, economic development, capital improvements, and industry trends, officials said.
