Andy Hortatsos has been in the optical business for more than 15 years, serving as the exclusive importer, distributor and online retailer of Vuarnet sunglasses and owning and operating several other eyewear oriented websites. In fall of 2012 he decided to expand his business into retail and opened Elite Eyewear in downtown Glen Ellyn.

Why did you choose the area you did?

The Hortatsos family are long time residents of Glen Ellyn and have a love for the small, close-knit community. They chose downtown Glen Ellyn because of its charm and its need for a specialty sunglass retailer in the area.

What does your business offer?

Elite Eyewear offers one of the widest selections of name brand sunglasses, goggles, safety, kids, sport performance, law enforcement and reading glasses in the Midwest. Featuring name brand eyewear by Vuarnet, Ray-Ban, Oakley, Coach, Serengeti, Bolle, Kaenon Spy, Smith, Porsche Design, Prada, Dragon, Electric, Native, Gargoyles, WileyX, Nike, Callaway and many more. They invite you to browse and try on sunglasses in their comfortable, casual resort themed store where there are over 600 pair of glasses on display.

What is a fact about your business that most customers probably don’t know?

Elite Eyewear is one of the very few privately owned specialty sunglass retailers in Chicago. Most stores are owned by large corporations and offer a smaller number of brands, giving consumers limited choice. Elite offers a much wider selection of brands and styles and prides themselves in exceptional product knowledge and personal service.
