Voter Information and Key Dates for General Election

Vote By Mail Applications

The DuPage County Clerk’s office sent vote by mail applications to all registered voters in late July for the November 3 General Election in compliance with emergency legislation to offer voters an alternative to voting in-person during COVID-19. Voters selecting to vote by mail are requested to securely apply online or to complete the mailed application and return it in the pre-paid envelope.

Please note that the Glen Ellyn Senior Center can assist in registering seniors online to receive their mail in ballots. Please contact the Senior Center directly at 630-858-6343 for assistance.

Ballots will begin to be mailed out on September 24, 2020 to those that have completed the vote by mail application. It may take four to five business days to receive a ballot after it is requested. Voters will have the opportunity to track their mail ballot, from printed to accepted, through BallotTrax on the DuPage County Clerk Election Division website.

Additionally, voters will continue to have the option of casting ballots during early voting or at Election Day polling places. DuPage County will also have two secure ballot dropboxes on its Wheaton campus. One will be located in the parking lot located south of the 421 administration building, and the second will be located inside the 421 building by the main entrance.

Voter registration can be completed online (through October 18, 2020) and in person (through October 6, 2020) with a valid driver’s license or State ID. Please note that the Civic Center is temporarily unable to process voter registration. For DuPage County voter registration locations, visit here.

All registered voters have the option to vote by mail, early vote or vote in person on the day of the election at their designated polling location.

Grace Period Registration and Early Voting

Illinois law provides individuals who were unable to register to vote a “grace period” to register and vote simultaneously. Early voting and grace period registration locations and dates are as follows:

• September 24 - November 2, 2020: at the DuPage County Clerk Election Division Office only (421 N. County Farm Road, Wheaton)
• October 19 - October 31, 2020: Designated temporary early voting locations throughout DuPage County. Hours include weekdays 8:30 a.m. - 7 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. For a listing of temporary early voting sites, visit here. (Glen Ellyn location - College of DuPage)
• October 19 - November 2, 2020: Designated permanent early voting locations throughout DuPage County. Hours include weekdays 8:30 a.m. - 7 p.m. and Weekends 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. For a listing of permanent early voting sites, visit here. (Glen Ellyn location - The Abbington Distinctive Banquets)
• Tuesday, November 3, 2020: Voter’s designated polling place on Election Day. To find your polling location, visit the voter services website.

Advisory Referendum Question Added to Election Ballot

The Glen Ellyn Village Board voted to have an Advisory Referendum Question added to the November 3, 2020 General Election ballot. The question will ask residents, “Shall the Village permit the sale of recreational cannabis within Village limits?”

In November 2019, the Village Board voted to impose a moratorium ordinance until the fall of 2020 on accepting or approving applications for recreational cannabis dispensaries in Glen Ellyn. The Board voted to extend the moratorium ordinance to December 15, 2020 to bridge the gap until election results are returned.

The new state law that went into effect January 1, 2020, makes it legal, subject to important limitations, for adults age 21 and older to possess cannabis for recreational use in Illinois. While municipalities cannot outlaw use or possession, they can ban or restrict sales within their borders.

The results of an advisory referendum is non-binding, and governing bodies are not required to act in accordance with the majority opinion.

DuPage County Doubling Election Judge Pay for 2020 Presidential Election

The DuPage County Clerk’s office has announced that pay will double for election judges for the 2020 Presidential Election.

Election judges working on Election Day will receive $130 in base pay and another $130 as a COVID-19 supplement for a total of $260. Election judges working during Early Voting will receive $10 per hour in base pay and another $10 per hour as a COVID-19 supplement.
