'We Share Your Frustration:' Park District Reacts To Teen Takeover In Glen Ellyn

The Glen Ellyn Park District shared a statement after an incident in which hundreds of teens stormed Sunset Pool.

GLEN ELLYN, IL — "We share your frustration," the Glen Ellyn Park District said in a statement following an incident in which hundreds of teens stormed Sunset Pool, drinking alcohol, using cannabis and lighting fireworks at the park district site.

The July 5 "teen takeover" resulted in one arrest involving a teen accused of shooting fireworks from a moving car. Sunset Pool closed early amid the chaos.

"We understand this incident was upsetting, and we share your frustration. The safety of our guests and staff is always our top priority and we take this incident very seriously," the statement explained.

"We are also using this incident as an opportunity to evaluate our training and policies in preparation for such challenges moving forward."

According to police, somewhere between 200 and 300 teens pushed their way through the admission area without paying.

The park district says its plans to "evaluate every aspect" of their staff's response and work with Glen Ellyn police to work to prevent future incidents.
