50 Crank Calls Reported at Single Home

Identity Theft
A resident reported April 23 that someone called their home over 50 times. Eventually they answered the phone and no one responded. They later received a text message from a phone company that the item they ordered would arrive in a few days. They called the company and learned someone in Philadelphia changed their account information and ordered an upgraded cellphone. They canceled the account and suffered no loss.
A resident reported April 24 receiving a bill from a cellphone company but stated they did not have an account with them. The company told the resident that on April 16 someone opened an account using their information at a cellphone store in Northbrook. The resident has also recently received suspicious mail from the IRS and is concerned someone has stolen their identity. They suffered no financial loss.

Harassment by Electronic Communication
A resident reported April 25 receiving several harassing text messages and voicemails. In January they reported the same thing to the Des Plaines Police from the same phone number. They do not know who the number belongs to but will sign a complaint if the calls continue.

Identity Theft
A resident reported April 22 that someone opened a cellphone account using their identifying information. The resident canceled the account and suffered no financial loss.
Theft
A resident reported between April 17 and 21 that their child’s bicycle, which was left at Hoffman School, was stolen. It is believed the bicycle was not properly secured to the rack. The estimated loss is $100.
Criminal Damage to Property
Between 4 and 5:45 p.m. on April 22 someone pulled an antenna off a vehicle while it was parked at a business in the 1100 block of Waukegan Rd. The estimated damage is $200.
