Former Glenview Trustee, Longtime Northwestern Employee Dies At 87
Charles Loebbaka also worked for a number of years as a journalist, covering the North Shore community, and was an author.

GLENVIEW, IL — Charles Loebbaka, a former Glenview trustee with deep ties and service to the local community, died on Sept. 5. He was 87. Loebbaka, known as "Chuck," was born in Evanston and lived in the area throughout his life.
Following college, Loebbaka started his journalism career with Star Publications in 1959, and later was a reporter/editor for the Glenview Announcements. Through Hollister Newspapers and Pioneer Press, he also served as executive editor of the 11 weekly newspaper chain, covering the North Shore.
Loebbaka later worked in politics for a number of campaigns, before becoming a Glenview Village Trustee from 1973 to 1983. In 1982, Loebbaka began his more than 30-year tenure with Northwestern University, first as manager of media relations and then as the school's director of media relations. Following his retirement from Northwestern, Loebbaka wrote a number of fiction and non-fiction novels.

Loebbaka was predeceased by his wife, Diana, who he met in high school and married in 1958. He is survived by his sons, Bradley, and wife Paula, and daughter Breanna; Jeffrey and wife, Karen, and children Jack and Maddie; and Theodore, and wife, Julie, and children, Christian and Brandon; brother, Steven Loebbaka and wife Maggie; and niece, Lori Henry.
Loebbaka will be laid to rest and interred at St. Adalbert Cemetery in Niles.
