Glenview Obituary: Marko Niketic, 17

Services for the Glenbrook South senior are planned for Thursday in Libertyville.

GLENVIEW, IL — As the North Shore community and beyond continues to mourn the loss of a local teenager, services are planned for Thursday. Marko Niketic, 17, of Glenview, died Sunday as a result of injuries he had sustained from a car crash.

An investigation into the crash continues, according to the Glenview Police Department.

Services for Niketic are being handled by Muzyka & Son Funeral Home, out of Chicago. According to an obituary posted on their website, a visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, at St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Monastery, 32377 N. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville. An Opelo (funeral service) will follow at 11 am. Interment will be at Saint Sava Monastery Cemetery in Libertyville.

Memorial services for Niketic were held both Tuesday and Wednesday night at the scene of the crash at East Lake Avenue and Meadow Lane.

Niketic and his family were parishioners at Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral, located in Chicago. The cathedral posted a tribute to Niketic on its website.

"Marko was not only a beloved parishioner of our Cathedral, he was an integral part of our community, involved in our SOKO folklore group," Holy Resurrection said in the post. "His family, esteemed and respected within our community, has been an essential pillar of our Cathedral for many years."

From his obituary, Marko Niketic was born on July 6, 2006, in Park Ridge, was the beloved son of Gordana and Nebojsa Niketic; loving brother of Luka; cherished grandson of Radojka Sulejic (the late Milorad), and Stanko Niketic; dear nephew of Donna (Dalibor) Mijatovic, Milovan Niketic, and Zorica Niketic, and cousin of Milorad, Mateja, Mia, Eva, Anastasia, and Ksenija. Marko was a student at Glenbrook South High School. He will dearly missed by all of his Kumovi, family, and friends in the United States and in Serbia.
