Dear Community:

Please be advised that a staff member working in the Youth Services Department has recently reported testing positive for COVID-19, and a second Youth Services staff member is reporting symptoms. While this is unfortunate news, we are thankful that both individuals are reporting mild symptoms. The staff member diagnosed with COVID-19 last worked in the Library on August 6, from 9 AM to 5 PM. Out of an abundance of caution, the Library is closing the Youth Services Department until further notice.
Based on the information reported, we do not believe any library patron had “close contact” with the individuals, as defined by the CDC. However, if you recently visited the Youth Services Department and are feeling symptoms, public health officials recommend getting tested. Please note that we will not share the employees’ names or other personally identifying information because of applicable confidentiality laws.

The Library is following guidance from the Cook County Department of Public Health and Illinois Department of Public Health and enacting the following safety protocols:
- Deep cleaning and disinfecting of all surfaces and areas in the Youth Services Department.
- Requiring staff members working in the Youth Services Department to self-quarantine and get tested for COVID-19.
- Any confirmed COVID-19 staff member must receive two negative test results prior to returning to work.
Other areas of the Library remain open for browsing at this time. Materials can also be placed on hold either by calling the Library during business hours or online 24/7 through the Library catalog. Thank you for your understanding.
