Inaugural Glenview Gobbler 5K Launches Thanksgiving Morning

GLENVIEW, IL — Realizing there was no "turkey trot" in the village, the organizers of another race in Glenview decided something needed to be done. They took their race — the OLPHun Run 5K — and revamped it by moving it from October to Thanksgiving morning. The result is the upcoming launch of the inaugural Glenview Gobbler 5K.

Set for 8 a.m. Nov. 27, the run/walk/dash for ages 6 to 100 will begin and end at Jackman Park. Participants will also be making their way through the scenic, tree-lined streets of Glenview's Swainwood neighborhood. Organizers of the Glenview Gobbler 5K say the family-friendly run features a primarily flat, paved course, which makes it accessible and enjoyable for participants of all ages and fitness levels.

Young runners between the ages of 3 and 8 will also have a chance to shine in the Kids Gobbler 50-yard Dash, also scheduled for 8 a.m.

"Our goal is to put on a family friendly, community event to kick off Thanksgiving morning," race director Jo Ann Clemen said.

The race is being organized by Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Men's Club, in partnership with the Grace Network. The festive event is intended to support the impactful work of both organizations.

According to organizers, the OLPH Men's Club is dedicated to enriching the parish and wider community through a wide array of programs, including the School Athletic Fund, Teacher's Fund, classroom technology upgrades, religious education, after school cubs, and roundball. The Club also provides key support to the youth Group, Endowment Fund, Sr. Paulanne's Needy Family Fund, and the parish's Capital Campaign, "helping ensure meaningful spiritual, educational, and philanthropic impact."

The Grace Network, also headquartered in Glenview, is a local non-profit that supports over 150 Chicago Public Schools with health and hygiene products for the housing insecure students.

The cost of the Glenview Gobbler 5K is $38, increasing after Nov. 14. The Kids 50-Yard Dash is $15, with registration ending on Nov. 19. To learn more and sign up, visit here.
