Stolen Wallet Leads to $14K in Fraudulent Charges

Teenagers also drove by a kid on a bike and made fun of the child repeatedly.

Theft

The complainant reported two females pick pocketed their wallet from their purse while they were entering a business in the 2500 block of Waukegan Rd Sept. 25. After realizing the wallet was gone, their credit card companies contacted them about potential fraudulent activity. Unauthorized purchases were made at several stores for over $14,000.

Harassment by Telephone

A resident reported receiving a harassing phone call from someone stating they were an IRS employee. The person said the resident owed back taxes and if they did not pay the police would come and arrest them. The resident knew the call was a scam and wanted to report the incident to the police.

Disorderly Conduct

The complainant reported Sept. 23 that they went to their former place of employment in the 2300 block of Ridge Dr., to meet a friend. After speaking with the friend they received a call from their former boss saying they were not allowed at the business and if they returned there was going to be problems. The former boss admitted calling and making the statement. No complaints were signed and the complainant was given a trespass warning.

Criminal Damage to Vehicle

A resident of the 100 block of Elm St. reported sometime overnight Sept. 24 someone damaged the fuel door on their vehicle while it was parked in the driveway. The person also placed a paper towel in the fill tub, which was soaked and dripping into a plastic bottle placed on the ground. The estimated damage is $50.

Criminal Damage to Vehicle

A resident of the 2100 block of Rugen Rd. reported sometime overnight Sept. 24 someone broke the driver side mirror on their vehicle while it was parked at their home. The estimated damage is $200.

Teens Make Fun of Kid

A resident of the 2700 block of Independence Ave. reported a black SUV with two male teens drove by their home multiple times making fun of their young child as the child rode their bike in front of the home at 5 p.m. Sept. 24.

Criminal Damage to Vehicle

A resident of the 4100 block of Cove Ln. reported between 1:30 and 7 p.m. Sept. 24 someone broke the front passenger window on their vehicle and stole the antenna while it was parked in their parking lot. The estimated loss is over $200.

Harassment by Telephone

A resident reported receiving a harassing phone call. The caller wanted access to the resident’s computer so the resident hung up.

Theft / Fraudulent use of Credit Card

Someone stole a wallet from a purse as the owner shopped at a business in the 1400 block of Waukegan Rd. Sept. 24 between 7:15 and 7:45 p.m. At 9:40 p.m. one of their credit cards was used at a store in the 2200 block of Willow Rd. for a $300 purchase.

Theft

Someone stole $200 from a room rented in the 1500 block of Milwaukee Ave. The victim suspects cleaning staff stole their money while they were out all day Sept. 24.

Burglary (Motor Vehicle)

A resident of the 0-100 block of South Main St. reported sometime overnight Sept. 25 someone burglarized their vehicle while it was parked outside their home. The video, stereo, heating controls and other items were stolen. The estimated loss is over $1,000.
