1 Critically Injured, 4 Injured In Rear-End Crash Near Antioch
The crash happened on Route 173 near Route 45 in unincorporated Antioch Thursday evening.
LAKE COUNTY, IL — One person has been critically injured in a five-vehicle collision near Antioch on Thursday evening.
The collision happened at about 6:05 p.m. when a Ford F-550, which was hauling an excavator, was headed west on Route 173 near Route 45, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office.
The Ford F-550 did not slow down for traffic at a red light and ran into the back of a Nissan Versa, according to a news release from the sheriff's office. The Nissan then hit a Volkswagen Atlas, which was pushed into a Chevrolet Silverado, and also sideswiped a stopped Kia F5.

A passenger in the Nissan, a 24-year-old Champaign woman, was taken by helicopter to Condell Medical Center with critical, life-threatening injuries. The driver and front seat passenger in the Nissan sustained injuries that are not considered life-threatening and were also taken to Condell Medical Center.
The driver of the Volkswagen, a 47-year-old from Twin Lakes, Wis., was transported to Froedtert Pleasant Prairie Hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening. The driver of the Ford, a 52-year-old Waukegan man, was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical CrashInvestigations Unit.
