2 Women Shot In Drive-By, Prompting Cross-County Police Chase

Two males — an adult and a minor — were apprehended in connection with the attack following a lengthy chase across Lake County, police said.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — Two women were shot overnight in Lake County while traveling in a vehicle, and two males — an adult and a juvenile — were apprehended in connection with the attack following a lengthy police chase across the county, according to authorities.

Sheriff’s deputies responded around 2 a.m. Sunday to Green Bay Road and Bonnie Brook Lane in Beach Park, where they found a vehicle in a ditch with extensive damage and two passengers who had been shot — one in the eye and one in the leg, police said. Both were taken to hospitals and are expected to survive, according to police.

The women had left a bar in North Chicago and were traveling home on Green Bay Road when a gray Dodge pulled up alongside them and its occupants opened fire, police said.

Law enforcement across the region were asked to look for the Dodge and it was seen in and around Waukegan, Wadsworth and Zion, but evaded police for about an hour by repeatedly speeding away until one officer used a tire deflation device, causing the vehicle to crash into a wooded area near Route 173 and Joana Avenue in Zion, according to authorities.

The occupants fled the Dodge but were apprehended after police established a perimeter and deployed K-9 units and drones, authorities said, adding a rifle and two pistols were recovered from the Dodge and in a backyard near the area where one of the males was found. The Dodge may have been stolen from Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, according to police.
