Amazon Driver Dead In I-94 Crash Causing 6 Hour Delays Identified

Illinois State Police said Bashir M. Hussain, 34, of Minnesota was pronounced dead on the scene near Wadsworth Monday morning.

GURNEE, IL — A fatal crash involving an Amazon delivery truck on eastbound Interstate 94 caused traffic jams past the Wisconsin border Monday afternoon, Illinois State Police said.

Officials were called to a rollover vehicle crash with a semi-trailer on eastbound I-94 between Stearns and Wadsworth roads at 5:22 a.m. When they arrived, authorities found a semi-truck on its side over the guardrail. Gurnee fire officials said part of the semi-truck was on fire.

According to initial investigation, ISP said the truck swerved to the lefthand side of the interstate and struck the middle concrete barrier in the process. The truck then drove on top of the barrier and tipped to its side.

The driver of the truck was extracted by 5:45 a.m. and pronounced dead on the scene. ISP officials later identified him as 34-year-old Bashir M. Hussain from Wilmar, Minnesota.

The two left lanes of I-94 headed east remained closed for over six hours following the incident. Lanes were finally reopened at noon but residual delays extended to the Wisconsin state line, traffic officials said.
