Annual 'Showcase' to Feature Best of Broadway

The fifth annual production will be held at The Fuel Room at Austin's Saloon & Eatery in Libertyville.

Each summer, Liberty Town Productions cast members—both new and old—gather for what Susie Aiello Kiefer says is much like a family reunion.

"It's just a really neat way to get new performers and old performers back together," Kiefer, of Libertyville, said of Liberty Town Productions' "Musical Summer Showcase."

Known to the performers as "Showcase," the two Aug. 3 shows will feature the "Best of Broadway," with musical numbers from productions like "Les Misérables," "Shrek" and "Anything Goes." The performances will be held at 6 and 8:15 p.m. in The Fuel Room at Austin's Saloon & Eatery in Libertyville.

"(Guests) should just expect a good time—wonderful music and wonderful performers," said Diana Niemanis O'Connor of Grayslake.

"Showcase" will feature solos, duets, group numbers and dancing.

"They're all just so different," Kiefer said of the songs. "My favorite thing is you get to enjoy watching each other."

All of the performers remain on the stage throughout the entire production, cheering each other on, Kiefer said.

"It's kind of like being on a team," she said. "Everyone just wants to see you do your best."

The show, O'Connor said, is pretty laid-back.

"Nobody is really the star. It's just very supportive. Everyone is very welcoming," she said.
