Burglar Caught On Camera Before Stealing Camera: Lake Co. Sheriff

The man was caught burglarizing his neighbor's home by an indoor security camera that had been previously installed by the homeowner.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — Lake County Sheriff's office detectives arrested a man Wednesday from unincorporated Grayslake after a burglary at his neighbor's home was captured on an indoor security camera that had been previously installed by the homeowner, according to a news release from the sheriff's office. Sheriff's deputies responded to a call reporting a burglary at a home in the 18100 block of West Lindenwood Drive Tuesday, where the burglar stole cash from the home and the indoor security camera, even though video of him burglarizing the home had already been saved in the 'Cloud,' according to the news release.

The sheriff's office said further investigation revealed 32-year-old Carlos H. Zelaya, of the 18100 block of W. Lindenwood Drive, was the victim's neighbor, and was arrested.

Zelaya faces a felony residential burglary charge approved by the Lake County State's Attorney's office, according to the sheriff's office. He's being held in the Lake County Jail awaiting an initial court hearing.
