Car Becomes Trapped Between Semi Trailer, Guardrail After Crash: Cops
The back trailer of a semi detached after hitting a bridge support beam on Route 41 in Gurnee Friday night, police said.
GURNEE, IL — No one was injured when a semi truck hit a bridge support beam, causing the freight container to detach from the trailer of the vehicle and fall onto the roadway Friday night on Route 41 in Gurnee, authorities said.
The collision happened at about 7:35 p.m. when the semi driven by a 31-year-old man from Cincinnati, Ohio, was headed south on Route 41 at the Canadian Pacific railroad tracks when the trailer hit the beam, according to a news release from the Gurnee Police Department.
The impact caused the freight container to detach from the trailer and fall onto the roadway. At the same time, a Toyota Corolla, driven by a 29-year-old Wilmette woman, was headed south and became pinned between the fallen container and the guardrail, according to a news release.

No one was injured in the collision, authorities said.
The Canadian Pacific Railroad halted rail traffic to inspect the bridge for damage. Route 41 was closed for about two hours while crews worked to clear the scene.

The driver of the semi-truck was cited for exceeding the maximum vehicle height. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
