LAKE COUNTY, IL — The Lake County Coroner's Office has identified a 51-year-old man who was killed when his car was hit by a train on Thursday afternoon.

Pete Kostopoulos, of Elk Grove Village, died from blunt force injuries sustained during the collision near the intersection of Belvidere Road and Centre Drive in Hainesville, according to a news release from the coroner's office.

Kostopoulos was extricated from the vehicle after it was hit by the Metra train at about 12:05 p.m. on Thursday. He was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead in the emergency room, according to the coroner's office.
