Coroner IDs Woman, 18, Hit And Killed By 2 Cars In Lake Co.

Police have tracked down the driver and vehicle involved in the hit-and-run in Wadsworth, according to authorities.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — The Lake County Coroner's Office has identified an 18-year-old Zion woman killed after she was hit by two vehicles in Wadsworth on Friday night.

Tiana Smith died from blunt force injuries as a result of the crash, which happened at about 11:45 p.m. Friday on Dilleys Road just south of Wadsworth Road, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office. When deputies arrived, they found the woman, who was identified Monday afternoon as Smith, lying dead in the road.

Authorities say a preliminary investigation revealed Smith was riding a bicycle north on Dilleys Road when she was hit from behind by a northbound GMC SUV, according to a news release. She was thrown from her bike and the bike then became lodged under the SUV before the driver fled the scene.

The woman was then hit by a southbound Hyundai Elantra, which was driven by a 23-year-old Waukegan man, authorities said. The driver has been cooperating with authorities on the investigation.

As of Monday afternoon, authorities have found and seized the GMC SUV, and investigators have identified the driver of the SUV as a 32-year-old Winthrop Harbor man. Police have not yet released any information on the name of the driver or indicated if charges have been filed against him, according to the coroner's office news release.
