Head-On Crash Sends 2 To Hospital, Slows Traffic In Round Lake: Police

UNINCORPORATED ROUND LAKE, IL — Two drivers are hospitalized following a head-on crash Monday morning in unincorporated Round Lake. According to the Lake County Sheriff's Office, the two drivers have critical injuries.

Police responded to Fairfield road, in the area of Nippersink Road, at around 6:30 a.m. They found two cars with heavy damage.

According to a preliminary investigation, a Chevrolet Equinox, driven by an adult woman (unknown age at this time) of Round Lake Beach, was traveling northbound on Fairfield Road. After crossing Nippersink Road for an unknown reason, the driver of the Chevrolet veered into the southbound lanes of traffic. The Chevrolet struck a southbound Acura MDX, driven by a 39-year-old Wauconda woman, head-on. Police reportedly found an open container of alcohol in the Chevrolet.

Two middle-school-aged children were in the Acura. They were taken to area hospitals with serious injuries, but police believe they are not life-threatening.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team. Traffic in the area was slowed for a stretch following the crash.
