Delays Extend To Wisconsin After Fatal Crash On I-94: ISP

State police reopened lanes on Interstate 94 at around noon, 6 hours after the Monday morning crash that killed a semi-truck driver.

GURNEE, IL — A fatal crash on eastbound Interstate 94 is causing traffic jams past the Wisconsin border Monday afternoon, Illinois State Police said.

Officials were called to a rollover vehicle crash with a semi-trailer on eastbound I-94 between Stearns and Wadsworth roads at 5:22 a.m. When they arrived, authorities found a semi-truck on its side over the guardrail. Gurnee fire officials said part of the semi-truck was on fire.

The driver of the truck was extracted by 5:45 a.m. and pronounced dead shortly after. ISP officials could not give additional information on the person's age or identity.

The two left lanes of I-94 headed east remained closed for over six hours following the incident. Lanes were finally reopened at noon but residual delays extend to the Wisconsin state line, traffic officials said.
