Visitors to the Grayslake Heritage Center and Museum during Grayslake Central High School homecoming events this weekend Sept. 16 and 17 can travel back in time and purchase the same penny candy that was available in the popular "old dime store" in the village.
Take a nostalgic trip back to your favorite treats of the past, treats such as sugar babies, Necco Wafers, jawbreakers, Mallo Cups, Mary Janes, Turkish taffy, wax lips, licorice whips and Black Jack and Clove gum. Buy these candies from the same famous glass case that they pushed their noses against at the store that is now a prominent part of the Grayslake Heritage Center and Museum's display in the lobby.
- Friday, Sept. 16 - noon to 4 p.m.
- Saturday, Sept. 17 - noon to 4 p.m.
