It was Grayslake Central’s first-ever championship game, and the last game pitching for the Rams for left-hander Colin Kornit, who was brought in in the bottom of the second with the bases loaded, two outs and Central down 3-0, according to the Lake County News-Sun.
Kornit, who will pitch for the College of Lake County next year, went on to strike out Louisville recruit Nick Drtina, according to the News-Sun.

“I was just ready to get outs,” Kornit told the Lake County News-Sun. “I knew I’d have all my guys behind me and I could empty the gas tank on the one hitter and focus on him. I’m thankful I got the job done in that situation.”
Several residents packed downtown Grayslake to welcome the team back with an impromptu parade that started at 5:30 p.m.
Brian Jones, a lifelong Grayslake resident who graduated from Central in the 90s, said his son is recent Central grad. He stopped out to show his support for the team.
“We know several of the players and their families,” he told Patch.
