Gurnee-Area Teen Facing Charges After Shooting Former Classmate
The Lake County Sheriff's Office said the teen is awaiting a juvenile detention hearing.
GURNEE, IL — One of three teens involved in a fight Thursday at a home in unincorprated Gurnee was petitoned to the juvenile jusitice system Monday due to accusations of felony aggravated discharge of a firearm and felony aggravated assault, according to a release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office. In the release, the sheriff's office said detectives determined three 17-year-old male teens involved in the fight at a home in the 17700 block of Horseshoe Lane knew eachother from previously attending the same school.
According to the sheriff's office, two teens arrived at the above address two weeks after one of them sold a pair of shoes to the teen who resides at the home. The two teens came to collect payment from the resident, as he hadn’t paid, the sherffi's office said.
After the two arried, they knocked on the door, and were met at the front door by the resident, who during the conversation flashed a semi-automatic pistol in his waistband, according to the release.

The teen reached for the gun in his wasitband, and a then a physical fight broke out between the three teens, during which the resident fired one shot at the other two, the release said.

One of the young men was hit in the inner-thigh area of both legs, the sheriff's office said, but both ended up leaving in fear of being shot again.
The sheriff's office said the juvenile who sustained the gunshot wound tried taking care of his injury on his own, without telling anyone else he had been shot. However, when Sheriff’s Detectives spoke with him and saw his injury, detectives made sure he got medical treatment.
The sheriff's office said the gun in the incident was recovered late Thursday evening.
According to the release, the Horseshoe Lane resident is being held at the Hulse Juvenile Detention Facility in Vernon Township awaiting a juvenile detention hearing.
