K9 Dax Tracks Down Man Accused Of Seriously Injuring 1 In Battery

Lake County Sheriff’s Office Canine Dax on Saturday successfully tracked down a suspect who battered another person, leaving them seriously injured in Lakemoor.

Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy John Forlenza and his canine partner Dax were requested around 10:30 p.m. Saturday. The duo was called to the 100 block of Windward Road in Lakemoor to assist the Lakemoor Police Department in a track for a battery offender.

The offender seriously injured another person and fled the scene on foot, according to Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli.

Dax tracked for approximately one-fourth of a mile and led officers directly to a shed. Dax began barking after alerting to the shed, Covelli said. The man surrendered after hearing Dax bark.

The suspect was identified as Daniel S. Couturie, 45, of Linda, California.

Couturie was arrested and turned over to the Lakemoor Police Department so they could continue their investigation into the incident, Covelli said.

Court records show Couturie was charged with domestic battery causing bodily harm and aggravated assault. He remains held in the Lake County Jail on a $20,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
