Keep Lake County Trick-Or-Treaters Safe, Drive Sober: Sheriff
Sheriff's office urges all to drive sober this Halloween as many children and families will be walking through neighborhoods after dark.
LAKE COUNTY, IL — The Lake County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday that extra deputies will be on patrol from Friday, Oct. 18 through Thursday, Oct. 31 (Halloween), in search of intoxicated motorists. In a news release, the sheriff's office said it urges motorists to commit to sober driving during Halloween as this is when children and families will be walking through neighborhoods after dark.
“We want all of Lake County’s trick-or-treaters to be safe from being struck by an intoxicated driver,” Lake County Sheriff John Idleburgh said, in the release. “If you’re planning on indulging at a Halloween party, be sure to make a plan to have a ride home. Sober family, friends, a taxi, or a ride share are all great options. Don’t make the dangerous decision to drive under the influence.”

The sheriff's office reminds the public that it's illegal to drive impaired by alcohol, drugs, or any other substances, and DUIs aren't restricted to alcohol-related offenses. "If you drive high, you’ll get a DUI," according to the sheriff's office, who added that impaired drivers should never get behind the wheel.
