LAKE COUNTY, IL — A Kenosha, Wisconsin man convicted in November 2018 of murdering his ex-wife in her Gurnee home in 2015 was sentenced Monday to 90 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, according to a news release from the Lake County State's Attorney's office. David Brocksom, 48, is required by law to serve 100 percent of the sentenced handed down by Lake County Associate Judge George Strickland, and has already received credit for 1,512 days toward the prison sentence due to time he's already served in the Lake County Jail, the news release said.

On Nov. 15, 2018, David was found guilty of first degree murder of his ex-wife, Beata Brocksom, according to the news release.

Brocksom sought orders of protection against his wife twice in 2013, according to online court records, and filed for divorce in 2011.

The state's attorney's office reported that on Sept. 27 2015, David took his two children to a resort in the Wisconsin Dells, but left in the middle of the night to drive to Beata's home.

Evidence presented at trial showed David planned to sneak in to Beata’s home about 4 a.m. to kill her, then planned to cover up the murder by making her death look like a suicide, according to the news release. However, Beat awoke after David got into her home, and the two fought for control of the gun, the state's attorney's office added. During this, Beata was shot in the throat, but managed to crawl outside through an open window to some nearby bushes, where she was found dead several hours later, evidence at trial showed, according to the state's attorney's office.

Evidence also showed David left the home and drove back to his parents' house in Kenosha, then arranged to have his children picked up from the Wisconsin Dells hotel before turning himself in to Gurnee police, the state's attorney's office said.

"This has been a long, difficult process for everyone involved," Lake County State's Attorney Michael Nerheim, said, according to the release. "Hopefully, this prison sentence helps bring some closure to the family of Beata Brocksom."
