Lake County Scammer Using Spoofed Sheriff's Office Phone Number

LAKE COUNTY, IL — The Lake County Sheriff's Office is warning the public about a scammer calling residents with a spoofed phone number appearing to be a call from the sheriff's office. According to the sheriff's office, the scammer claims they're calling about a civil matter, and that the resident needs to call them back. However, the reported scammer provides a number that isn't associated with the sheriff's office.

The sheriff's office urges residents, "Do not call the number back!" and to please spread the word.
