Man Arrested In Gurnee After Armed Robbery, Two-State Chase

The Burbank man faces felony charges in Lake County in connection with the chase and armed robbery in Chicago.

GURNEE, IL β€” A south suburban man faces felony charges for allegations he robbed a Chicago business at gunpoint over the weekend and then led authorities on a chase through two states before his arrest in Gurnee.

Norbert Thigpen, 36, of the 8400 block of South Mulligan in Burbank, has been charged with two counts of armed robbery - discharge firearm and one count of aggravated fleeing/police/21 mph in connection with the Saturday incident, according to a report from the Chicago Police Department.

Thigpen is accused of entering a business in the 8600 block of South Cicero Avenue at about 5:30 p.m. Saturday and pulling a gun on the cashier and demanding money, according to the police report. The Daily Herald is reporting the cashier obliged and handed the cash over to Thigpen, police said.

Thigpen then fled the business, heading north on Interstate 94 into Wisconsin before leading police on a chase back into Illinois and Gurnee, according to the Daily Herald. He was taken into custody in the 0 to 100 mile of southbound Interstate 94 in Gurnee, according to Chicago police.

Thigpen is expected to appear in court for a detention hearing Monday.
