Officer Saved Driver From Burning Vehicle That Hit Her Squad Car: Cops

The Gurnee Police Department officer is expected to receive a Life Saving Award at an upcoming village board meeting.

GURNEE, IL β€” A Gurnee Police Department officer will receive a life-saving award for her quick actions in pulling an unresponsive driver from a burning vehicle following a crash this past month.

Officer Kassandra Canadzic is being recognized for her actions on Nov. 9 when her squad car was rear-ended by a driver, who was suspected of driving while under the influence, according to a news release from the police department.

The car caught on fire following the collision. Canadzic, while going to check on the occupants of the car, found an unresponsive female behind the wheel, authorities said. She was able to coordinate with a bystander to unbuckle the female and carry her to safety.
